Tiago Valente

Tiago Valente is a Creative Director, Designer, Strategist, Professor and Artist.

With more than twenty years of experience, his practice has expanded through different mediums, industries and experiences, and has been commissioned by and manifested through highly reputed brands, institutions and organizations, such as Missoni, Zara, Urban Zen by Donna Karan, Lane Crawford, Google, Unilever and The Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao. Publications such as Vogue, Rolling Stone, Vice Magazine and Aesthetica have published a number of articles about his work. In addition, he’s earned international awards and exhibited worldwide in a rich contrast of cultures.

Besides his current role as the Associate Director of Parsons MPS Fashion Management – Partnerships & Culture, he also teaches in the areas of Fashion Design, Luxury Experiential, Storytelling and Experience, Materiality Design Studio and Visual Communication at Parsons School of Design, while serving as the BFA Materiality Innovation Leader, and simultaneously consulting and crafting masterclasses and workshops for executives in the Luxury field.

Both in corporate and academic settings, he follows an experiential, interdisciplinary and holistic approach, with a focus on Innovation and geared towards, Sustainability, Diversity, Equity and Social Justice initiatives.

Tiago is often approached by organizations such as the United Nations Office for Partnerships, to share his vision and ideas to boost solutions and positive change, with a focus on the Sustainable Development Goals and response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

He has lived in Spain, Brazil, Australia, China, Argentina, India and currently in the US, and commands six different languages. In addition, he has developed an intensive research practice through anthropological expeditions to study human behaviors and sustainable practices in remote areas of the South Pacific Ocean/ Melanesia. (Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Fiji, Tuvalu and Vanuatu). All these experiences have helped him to further expand his understanding of various Indigenous knowledge systems, the impact of environmental racism, and responses to colonialism and invasion articulating different expressions of rebellion through creative expressions. All this learning has significantly impacted his career allowing him to hone his sharp instinct to better understand human behaviors and identifying cultural trends, both globally and locally.

Having such a global and multifaceted experience has allowed him the ability to think holistically and critically, in order to gather and connect original ideas + scientific data to forecast early business opportunities, develop strategies and establish meaningful partnerships, while maintaining a sharp sensibility for artistic creations in the context of commercial landscapes, fair labor practices and supply chain, as well as environmental and social responsibility to lead the creation of ethical practices, unique

products and memorable experiences.

He has been invited to talk about his holistic approach and creative journey at Harvard University, Rhode Island School of Design, Istituto Europeo di Design and Istituto Marangoni.

Tiago is currently based in New York and operates globally.
