Meegan Brooks

Meegan Brooks’ entire career has focused on defending and advising retailers, e-commerce companies, hospitality companies, and consumer product manufacturers in consumer-related matters. As a lead associate in Steptoe’s Retail & E-Commerce Practice, her clients include fashion retailers, online retailers, startups, luxury brands, magazine publishers, big box stores, cosmetics companies, and furniture retailers.

Meegan regularly litigates false advertising, unfair competition, and privacy class actions, most often brought under state consumer protection statutes such as California’s Business & Professions Code Section 17200 and the Consumer Legal Remedies Act.  She is also actively defending numerous consumer class actions concerning the alleged disclosure of customer mailing lists to third parties, brought under state privacy and publicity statutes.

Additionally, Meegan serves as outside marketing counsel for numerous retailers. She frequently advises clients on issues including pricing and promotional advertising, environmental and other ESG claims, “Made in the USA” labels, automatic renewal laws, sponsored endorsements, sweepstakes and contests, and textile disclosures.

Meegan has been designated as a Certified Information Privacy Professional, United States (CIPP/US) by the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP), and is frequently called on to speak and write about privacy-related trends impacting the retail industry.
