The renowned Harry’s Bar in Venice was founded in 1931 by Arrigo’s father Giuseppe Cipriani. Harry’s Bar became a popular spot for celebrities like Ernest Hemingway and Humphrey Bogart. Giuseppe Cipriani created the Bellini cocktail there, and the food dish Carpaccio is also reputed to have originated there.
In the 1980’s, with Arrigo at the helm, business went international with the opening of Harry’s Bar in New York. Several other US venues followed, with over a dozen hotels and restaurants under the Cipriani brand now located around the globe from London to Hong Kong. Though his son Giuseppe has taken over as business manager, Arrigo remains the majority owner of Cipriani S.A.
