There are eighteen categories for the Luxury Law Awards 2021.

We are inviting nominations and entries for individuals and organisations for consideration by our Jury and the Luxury Law team. They will be looking for evidence of best practice between 1 January 2020 and 1st June 2021.

Lifetime Achievement in Luxury Law

The Luxury Law Alliance Advisory Board will be asked to nominate an individual who it feels has, during the course of their career, made an outstanding contribution to the development of luxury law, to the protection of the luxury brands and to the growth of successful businesses in the luxury sector.

Brand leaders

Business Leader of the Year

Nominations can be made for the CEO, designer, director or executive of a luxury business who, in the past year, has delivered growth for their brands and/or implemented a business development strategy that is innovative and proving effective in the luxury sector.

Entrepreneur of the Year  

We are seeking nominations for an entrepreneur who is successfully creating a new brand in the luxury sector. The judges will be looking for someone who is combining creativity with business acumen to carve out a sustainable market for a product or service thereby helping to ensure the luxury sector maintains its vibrancy and competitiveness.

Brand Protection Leader of the Year

This category recognises the vital work undertaken by brand protection leaders. The judges will be looking for evidence of innovation, leadership and teamwork.

In-house Law

The Marella Naj-Oleari Luxury Business In-House General Counsel of the Year

This award is dedicated to the general counsel who stands out from the crowd. The winner will demonstrate leadership and business acumen across the business and in the luxury sector.

Legal Team of the Year

We are seeking to find an in-house legal team which has proved its value to the business in a demonstrable way. This could be a new project undertaken by the group, a particular approach to dealing with a pressing issue, or how the in-house legal team has worked collaboratively with colleagues across the business to develop new opportunities.

Deal Team of the Year

This award recognises the most important or interesting deals in the luxury sector. Entries must demonstrate why the deal was important as well as evidence of legal expertise, innovation and team working.

IP Counsel of the Year
Sponsored by: Bennett Jones

This category sets out to identify an IP lawyer who can demonstrate having made an outstanding contribution to the management of their company’s IP assets and protection of the brand. The winning candidate will display leadership in the field as well as a key understanding of the IP ecosystem.

Tech Leader of the Year
Sponsored by: King & Spalding

Technology is a vital weapon in the armoury of any market leading in-house legal team. The winner of this category will be a member of the legal team who has taken responsibility for a key aspect of their team’s technology. It might be the implementation of a new platform, or it could be a track record of overseeing all aspects of the team’s IT.

Luxury Law Rising Star

This category is looking to identify a rising legal talent who has demonstrated the ability to add real value to the luxury business sector. The judges will be looking for evidence of legal expertise, team working, initiative and leadership potential. Nominees must have five years of post-qualification experience or less.

Sustainability Initiative of the Year

This category seeks to reward an initiative that has made a significant contribution to sustainability. This could be an initiative within the legal team, or a wider project to which the team has played a key role. The judges will be looking for a clear statement of the project’s objectives coupled with evidence that they are being met.

Philanthropy Initiative of the Year

Many brands stepped up to the plate at the outset of the Covid-19 pandemic by adapting their manufacturing facilities to produce scarce medical products. This category recognises the crucial role lawyers play in delivering philanthropy initiatives. The winning entry might be a project that is confined to the legal team, or it could be a wider project to which the team has made a key contribution. The judges will be looking for a clear statement of the project’s objectives coupled with evidence that they are being met.

Private Practice

Luxury Law Firm of the Year

We invite entries from law firms with a luxury sector practice which can demonstrate they are consistently delivering market leading advice that helps their clients to prosper. The judges will be looking for evidence of legal expertise and innovation, team working, client satisfaction and a commitment to ESG.

Best New Luxury Law Firm Practice 

The winners of this award will have developed true luxury law expertise within the last five years and be able to demonstrate they are consistently delivering market leading advice that helps their clients to prosper. The judges will be looking for evidence of legal expertise and innovation, team working, client satisfaction and a commitment to ESG.

Partner of the Year 

We are seeking nominations or entries for partners who have had an exceptional year delivering value for their clients against the background of the Covid-19 pandemic. The judges will be looking for evidence of technical legal skills, team working, client care and leadership.

Rising Star  

This category is looking to identify a rising legal talent who has demonstrated the ability to add real value to the luxury business sector. The judges will be looking for evidence of legal expertise, team working, initiative and leadership potential. Nominees must have five years of post-qualification experience or less.

Service Provider

 Legal Technology 

This category recognises the contribution service providers make to luxury law. The judges will be looking to recognise a product or service that is helping in-house legal teams deliver value to their clients. Entries must provide a description of the product or service’s unique capabilities and evidence of its successful roll out that is likely to include a case study.

Brand Protection

Technology has a vital role to play in the ongoing fight against counterfeiting and other critical aspects of brand protection. The judges will be looking to recognise a product or service that is helping in-house legal teams deliver value to their clients. Entries must provide a description of the product or service’s unique capabilities and evidence of its successful roll out that is likely to include a case study.
